This soo beautiful, and I relate deeply.

It's so strange how in trying so hard to avoid our mothers' mistake, we sometimes end up mirroring them in different ways.

I usually get mad at substack algorithm, which does not let me to find the article I’m searching for by the name on top of the search results, but that’s how I found this article and it was a pleasant surprise. It’s very beautifully written and I can relate to many of what’s in it. It feels like this mother daughter pain is unescapable. You can just try to make the best of the situation and lead by empathy like you said I’m also going to put the movies you suggested in my watchlist because that was a beautiful comment on the pearl.

Riveting, made me think a lot too. Thank you for giving grace both to the daughters with terrible mothers and the mothers who have become as terrible as they because of their own terrible mothers. Let's try to understand them in their terribleness, while recognizing our own, and perhaps the next seeds sown will be a little kinder

I'll never understand the Turning Red slander. I'm convinced anyone who thinks it's bad hasn't been a teenage girl 😔

EEAAO is probably my favorite movie out of all of these (with turning red) cuz the mother-daughter dynamics were so realistic & it allowed us to really see things from the mother’s perspective more which you don’t get in a lot of media and i’m really happy that the hardships of a parent is being shown more. it’s helped me repair my feelings with my mother while also accepting that i can feel how i feel as well because regardless of her hurt, mine is valid as well no matter what intentions she had. very eye opening. i feel like something shifted this mother’s day idk why

I swear to God, something shifted. There just seems to be more empathy and forgiveness in general

Dear god, we need mass psychological reconstruction. Expeditiously. Hella modifications. Are all our mother's crazy or cold?
